I awoke this morning, as usual, with significant ankle discomfort. It has often prevented me from going for my early morning stroll, leaving me despondent. However, I forced myself with all of my strength, or so-called willpower, to get up and move anyhow.
To my surprise, a voice followed me and whispered: “Don’t fight with ME!!
I sensed it in my ankle.and an introduction followed. I’m your pain.
I increased my rate of walk as a display of ignorance, and this time she spelled it out loudly: Don’t IGNORE ME!!
I was irritated and said, “I will kill you with spray.” She giggled and exclaimed, “You can’t kill me!”
I, too, reacted strongly; it is a really strong spray. With a mature pause, she replied, “It can suppress for a while, but DON’T SUPPRESS ME!!”
It’s been rather exhausting, having taken 6500 steps so far, and I’m wondering what you want to say.
She replied, “Listen, I am your internal messaging system.” I send you alerts as well as words of calmness. I use your body’s remarkable healing system, which can either shut down or increase my work (alarm message).
But you make me uneasy, I say. She claimed your body has an opioid (endogenous) system that is approximately 60 times stronger than any medicine.
You simply need to harness your feelings of restlessness by acknowledging my (pain) purpose and process, allowing the system (internal and external) to heal, and, most importantly, “EXPRESSING without being AFRAID,” remembering that it is “FIRST-AID.”
Friends, It’s a learning and realizing experience. Pain’s message is quite obvious, whether felt emotionally or physically.
So, how do you express your pain?
